Olarain Care: Care and support at the heart of university life

At Olarain, we understand university life as a unique opportunity to support you in your personal growth. Beyond providing a place to live and study, we want to be your travel companions. And this conviction is materialized through our personal and academic growth programs, among them Olarain Care, one of the pillars of our community.

Olarain Care: your well-being matters to us

Olarain Care is our comprehensive program focused on personal well-being and coexistence of each resident. We work to ensure you find not just a place to live, but a space where you can grow, take care of yourself, and feel supported. The peace of mind that comes from knowing that any issue, question or need will be addressed quickly, with compassion and understanding is one of the cornerstones of our community.

To achieve this holistic well-being, Olarain Care focuses on three main pillars: sport, to keep both body and mind active, nutrition, and psychological support, complemented by the heart of our student support system, the tutoring department.

1. The Tutoring Department, the heart of the support

Our commitment is to offer personalised guidance and individual follow-up to each student, so that they can adapt to their new environment, both socially and academically, through attentive listening and close support.

The Tutoring Department is the core of this support. From here, we work on the different aspects of student development: physical, emotional, cognitive, and social with a preventive approach, identifying difficulties and intervening before problems escalate.

Supporting means:

  • Facilitate the adaptation of new students.
  • Promote coexistence, empathy, and respect.
  • To mediate and help in conflict resolution.
  • Create safe spaces where people can express emotions and concerns.
  • Maintain direct and constant communication with families.

Being present, listening, and spending time with each person is the essence of our culture of care. Because caring also means observing, understanding, and providing close support.

2. Sport, nutrition and psychological support: programs for holistic well-being

Through Olarain Care, we promote activities and programs that foster the emotional and physical well-being of students, a priority for our team.

Nutrition: Through talks, workshops, and balanced menus, we promote mindful nutrition and healthy habits.

Psychological Support: We offer a safe and accessible space for anyone who needs it, with personalized tutoring and psychological support.

In addition, we promote healthy coexistence dynamics to improve emotional management and strengthen bonds between students, helping to resolve conflicts through empathy and respect.

Sport: Daily life is complemented by sports and leisure activities that promote physical health. We offer a range of facilities, such as a gym, paddle tennis court, and football and basketball fields, where residents can stay active.

3. Training and awareness: activities for emotional growth

We put emotional well-being at the heart of our community. We want to be a safe and welcoming space where we can grow and take care of each other. At Olarain Care, we offer different short training and support sessions for the entire Olarain family: both residents and staff.

We promote activities focused on mental health, such as support groups for emotional management, and inspiring talks. Throughout the academic year, we host sessions on topics such as:

  • Emotional Intelligence, including a talk by Javier González focused on Generation Z.
  • Eating Disorders (ED), with experts such as Sandra Piñeiro
  • Mental health monologues as inspiring as FutbolisTOK by Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga

As a team, we continue our own training in key areas such as suicide prevention and grief, with the aim of creating ever safer environments for reflection, sharing and feeling supported. To do so, we collaborate with organisations such as Biziraun and attend initiatives like the University of the Basque Country (EHU) summer courses.

More than accommodation: a community that cares

Living at Olarain is much more than staying close to campus. It means being part of a diverse, open, and engaged community where people’s well-being is our priority. Taking care of yourself, and taking care of others, is part of our culture.

And it is this culture of care that makes our residence much more than just a place to live: a community where people grow with support.
